How to Mindfully Use Social Media

Social media is a great way to connect and interact with others, but it can also negatively impact our mental health. While it's unrealistic to completely stop using social media, there are ways to be more mindful of how we use it. Here are a few tips for mindfully using social media!

  1. Follow accounts that make you feel good and unfollow those that are negative or triggering.
If an account regularly shares content that triggers negative emotions or thoughts, reduce your exposure by unfollowing or muting them.

  2. Set a timer to limit your social media time.
This helps prevent you from doomscrolling and losing track of time. Set a daily limit for yourself and use a timer to stay on track.

  3. Consider your intentions before logging in.
Ask yourself why you're scrolling. Could your time be better spent elsewhere? Perhaps reading a book or engaging in another activity?

  4. Remember that you’re only seeing other people’s highlight reels.
Social media is highly curated—people typically share the best parts of their lives, not the worst. Keep this in mind as you scroll.

We hope these tips help you approach social media more mindfully and maintain a healthy, positive relationship with it. Share this with a friend who might benefit from these tips!
