The Importance of Sleep
Sleep is one of the most crucial parts of our day. Without proper sleep, it is challenging for one to have stable mental and emotional health. Sleep is just as important to your overall health and functioning as eating or drinking water. Giving your mind time to rest is crucial to your mental health. When I was working night shift as a nurse, one of the biggest factors that disrupted my mental health was lack of sleep.
Here are five reasons sleep is important to your mental, physical, and emotional health:
Sleep allows the brain to process emotions and information from the day
Sleep give the mind time to rest and reset
Lack of proper sleep can lead to anxiety and depression
Your mind needs between seven and nine hours each night to properly decompress and reset for the next day
Lack of sleep can lead to: weight gain, getting sick more frequently, high stress levels, low moral, and overall negative thoughts or behavior
