How To Handle Overthinking
If you are anything like me, you are in your head overthinking daily. At times this can be overwhelming and too much to handle. I have to consciously work towards preventing myself from overthinking the little details of everything. It is something I strive for and work at on a daily basis. I think this is something more people experience than not so I wanted to share with you some tips and tricks I have found helpful to handling and preventing overthinking.
Focus on problem solving rather than on the problem itself
It can be easy to focus on one thing happening or going wrong and let it consume you to the point of not being able to focus or accomplish anything else. Make an effort to give more of your energy towards solving the issue at hand rather than just sitting and stressing about it.
Find a healthy distraction
My favorite healthy distraction when I am overthinking something is exercise. By taking some time for myself and getting a workout in, I put my thoughts to the side. I have found that after a workout I have a more clear mind and calm demeanor allowing me to stress and overthink things less. I often find that after a workout I have calmed down enough that something I thought was a huge issue is no longer as troubling to me.
Be mindful
Take a moment to focus on 3 positive aspects of the situation you are overthinking or 3 things you are grateful for that pertain to the situation. By forcing yourself to find a positive aspect to the topic, you will undoubtedly begin to overthink it less.
I hope you find these few tips as helpful as they have been to me. I can’t to hear your feedback and which strategy works best for you!
