Meditation Apps

A small but impactful practice I try to incorporate into my day as often as possible is meditation and mindfulness. If you are anything like me you may have trouble getting your mind to remain still as you focus on mindful thoughts. The best way I have found to practice meditation and mindfulness is through guided practice. I love attending sound baths, yoga, and other forms of in person guided practice. However, at home I utilize mindful apps on my phone to guide me. I thought it would be nice to share some of my favorite apps with you so you can try this at home as well!

Free Apps

HEALTHY MINDS PROGRAM

This app offers different styles of meditation including seated and active. It also has a podcast that provides the science and purpose behind practices. My favorite thing about this app is the active practice. This is practice that can be utilized during a commute or while exercising. In my opinion, that is what sets the Healthy Minds Program apart from other apps. It truly leaves you with no excuses to miss your daily practice.

INSIGHT TIMER

The Insight Timer app has tens of thousands of free guided practices. One of my favorite things about this app is that you can find an instructor you work well with and follow them so you don’t miss any of their newly released sessions. As you advance, this app also offers non guided meditation options where you can select a background noise and timer to meditate to on your own.

Paid Apps

HEADSPACE

My favorite thing about the headspace app is that the meditations gradually get more advanced over time. I also really enjoy how organized the meditations are as they are categorized by type so you can find one you like and stick with it. Another amazing feature of this app is their morning routines that help you get your day started with a daily routine of mindfulness. Overall, Headspace is my favorite mindful app for daily use. ($70 per year)

CALM

I would recommend calm to those who are more advanced in their practice of meditation and mindfulness as it is more independent than guided. My favorite thing about this app is the sleep stories. These help you unwind and get the best night rest possible. This app also has a substantial kids section for those trying to practice mindfulness with children. ($70 per year for their paid version but they also offer parts of the app for free)

These are just a few of the many options for meditation apps. I hope this list helps you to narrow down some of your choices and begin practicing meditation and mindfulness at home. It truly is such an impactful habit to work into your daily or weekly routine!
